Fantasy sports platform Paytm First Games plans to retain their users post IPL 2020 and also aims to expand internationally.

After the conclusion of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020, which saw fantasy sports platforms enjoy tremendous success, Paytm First Games aim to continue their strong run by expanding their tournaments roster.

Sudhanshu Gupta, COO of Paytm First Games, has got the strategy in place to retain the users even after the end of IPL 2020.

“We have a two-pronged strategy to grow the user base once the IPL season is over,” revealed Gupta in an interview with KrAsia.

“For serious fantasy players, we will continue to add and engage them with other sports events that are going on.”

The fantasy sports platform will rely on the numerous other cricket tournaments happening across the globe to keep the users hooked.

“While what really gets covered is marquee events like IPL, there are always multiple cricket leagues happening all around the world. We believe a lot of serious fantasy gamers would love to participate in these,” he reckoned.

While online fantasy sports is the most popular gaming category on Paytm First Games, their other two categories - casual gaming and rummy - will help retain the users that won’t be playing fantasy cricket in the absence of big tournaments.

“For non-serious fantasy users who are only interested in playing when there’s an India match, we want to continue engaging them in other games like rummy that is also a real-money game.

“For casual games, we would be organizing free to play tournaments in popular games such as ludo, chess, snooker, and other such games.”

Going beyond Indian borders

After making a mark in the Indian fantasy sports space, Paytm First Games has now set their eyes on the international demographic, with an aim to replicate the achievements.

“We still have these markets on our radar,” said Gupta when asked about the expansion plans in Southeast Asia.

“The platform works in a way that’s very easy for it to integrate and partner with publishers from other markets. We just concluded a pilot with Grab where we have our games running on their app in Indonesia.

"Post-IPL we would start working on how to best take our products to Southeast Asia,” he said.
