Harsha Bhogle joins Fantasy Akhada as investor, ambassador

Indian cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle has joined fantasy sports platform Fantasy Akhada as an investor and a strategic partner. He will also serve as the brand ambassador of the fantasy gaming app for two years.

Harsha Bhogle, one of the most popular voices in world cricket, has invested an undisclosed amount in the Gurugram-based startup.

In a video posted on Twitter, Harsha Bhogle expressed his curiosity in fantasy sports and showed confidence in Fantasy Akhada.

"I have always been interested in fantasy sport because it allows fans to test their wits against others and allow them to be more involved,” said Bhogle.

“Fantasy Akhada is an initiative of hard-core sports lovers who understand the fan and fantasy sport and I enjoy seeing young, driven people trying to move ahead.

“I am hoping Fantasy Akhada will become a platform where fans can congregate and enjoy playing fantasy sports,” he added.

Amit Purohit, the founder of Fantasy Akhada, is optimistic about luring new users to the platform with Harsha Bhogle as the face of the brand.

“We are excited to have Harsha, a stalwart in the world of cricket, join us as an investor at this stage of our journey.

“When we decided to look for a brand icon for Fantasy Akhada, we aimed at having someone who has an immensely powerful brand image in the minds of the Indian cricket fans,” said Purohit.

Apart from being the brand ambassador, Harsha Bhogle will also be mentoring the young company to expand its business.

“This is a long-term partnership wherein apart from being the face of the brand, he will also guide us in this journey thanks to his vast experience and in-depth knowledge in the world of sports, especially cricket,” Amit added.

Founded by Amit Purohit in January earlier this year, the fantasy sports firm has raised over USD 175,000 from angel investors and claims to have more than 100,000 registered users.

Fantasy Akhada aims to attract more users on its platform by leveraging the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020, commencing on September 19.
