The England cricket team will kickstart its three-month-long tour of Asia with a two-match Test series against Sri Lanka, starting with the first Test on January 14 at the Galle International Stadium.

This Sri Lanka vs England Test series was originally scheduled in March 2020 but was called off after the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Since then, England have witnessed quite a bit of action in all formats and have faced West Indies, and Pakistan in six Test matches. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka, have not had much international exposure and returned to the international circuit in late December, only to be battered in South Africa.

The Sri Lankan cricket team lost both Tests against the Proteas by huge margins and a number of its players were struck by injuries. However, Sri Lanka can gain confidence from the fact that they have a magnificent record at Galle and England are travelling with a depleted squad.

The last time England toured Sri Lanka in 2018, the visitors whitewashed Sri Lanka 3-0 but are missing a number of their previous heroes on this visit. Apart from resting their No. 1 Test all-rounder Ben Stokes and strike bowler Jofra Archer, the Three Lions will be missing previous tour’s joint leading wicket-taker Moeen Ali after he tested positive for COVID-19.

England captain Joe Root will want his team to gain some confidence and better their standing in the World Test Championship before heading to India for four Tests, five T20Is and three ODIs.

Sri Lanka cricket captain Dimuth Karunaratne scored a ton in his last innings and will be raring to lead his side to a much-awaited home victory.

Fans can watch Sri Lanka vs England Test series live in India on streaming and on TV.
